Immersive horror scene design reference: two 3D real-life case studies
Recently, we received a request from a client from Chinatown, Australia, to build a haunted house with Chinese horror themes: he needed two themes: 1. A horror classroom, with messy desks and chairs in the mottled classroom, and ghosts that might suddenly rush down from the corners of the room; 2. A morgue (called Yi Zhuang in Chinese), which was filled with coffins, paper money, candles and other props, creating a creepy feeling of fear.
The difficulty of horror scene design lies in atmosphere rendering and space composition. Through 360-degree panoramic interactive cases, designers can get inspiration from light and shadow, layout, and props details. The final effect was recognized by the client and a contract was signed with us.
Case 1: Horror Classroom

Features analysis:
The strange graffiti and English words on the blackboard create a sense of "crazy teaching";
The weak light + candle lighting in the whole house makes the space appear depressing;
The skeletons and ghosts in the sky are placed in the corner, and the podium setting creates a sense of "weird classroom" plot.

Case 2: Horror Memorial

Features:
Traditional Chinese elements such as coffins, spirit tablets, and bodies covered with white cloth;
The oblique cold light and incense and candles form a strong contrast between light and dark;
The "resurrection" and "resurrection" plots can be implanted in the scene.
Design summary: How to integrate these elements into your scene project
Use 3D reference to clarify "space partition" (such as main scene, guide area, fright point)
Prop priority suggestion: candle > blackboard text > skull > coffin > mourning hall background board
Lighting setting suggestion: alternating cold and warm light to create a rhythm of depression + fright
It is recommended to combine AR or mechanical props to achieve dynamic interactive effects (such as sudden lighting/door closing)
